The Heartbreaking Reality of Elvis & Priscilla Presley’s Love Story

Elvis had a proposition for Priscilla’s father and stepmother. He suggested that Priscilla could come and live with them. He was pretty convincing, Priscilla shared with People magazine. Elvis swore that his intentions were pure. He professed his love, his need, and his respect for her. He even went as far as to say he couldn’t live without her. He hinted at a future where they’d be married.

Given this context, Priscilla’s parents didn’t have much choice. They eventually gave in and said yes. And so, Priscilla moved in with Vernon and Dee Presley. Technically, that is. She was still attending the all-girl Immaculate Conception Cathedral High School in Memphis. But she spent so much time at Graceland with Elvis, it was as if she was living there.

Priscilla reflected on this in a 2017 interview on Good Morning America. “People have said, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe your parents let you go with this stranger,'” she said. But she defended her parents’ decision. She described it as an innocent time. She liked Elvis a lot. She felt safe with him. She emphasized that it was a different era. People had morals, high standards. There was a lot of care.

However, Elvis’s lifestyle was a bit… complicated. He was making multiple movies a year. Each movie had a beautiful leading lady. And while he may not have had as many affairs with his co-stars as rumors suggested, he wasn’t exactly living the life of a committed man.
