“Loml” is a track that tugs at your heartstrings. Taylor starts off singing about being called someone’s “love of my life” a million times over. But then, things take a turn.
She observes, “If you know it in one glimpse, it’s legendary.” She adds, “What we thought was for all time was momentary.” The song wraps up with a poignant message to the person, “You’re the loss of my life.”
Could it be about her long-term relationship with Joe? Maybe. But lyrics like “rekindled flames” and “we were just kids, babe” suggest a different story. They hint at a rekindled spark with Matty after all these years. “I’ve felt a glow like this never before and never since,” she confesses.
Next up, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” This one seems to be about Taylor powering through her Eras Tour despite heartbreak. She’s “hittin’ my marks” on stage, cheered on by a chanting crowd. She masks her emotions with a brave face: “Lights, camera, bitch smile.”
Despite its upbeat rhythm, the song is laced with lyrics of unrequited love. “I’m so obsessed with him, but he avoids me like the plague / I cry a lot, but I am so productive, it’s an art,” she croons. “You know you’re good when you can even do it with a broken heart.”
Last but not least, “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Taylor has a bone to pick with “the smallest man who ever lived,” who seemingly ditched their relationship out of the blue. “You kicked out the stage lights, but you’re still performing,” she sings. “And in plain sight you hid / But you are what you did.”
