Britney Spears had a falling out with her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, during a challenging period. This was back in early 2019, when Britney was sent to rehab. She describes it as involuntary, saying, “My father said that if I didn’t go, then I’d have to go to court, and I’d be embarrassed.”
While in rehab, she was prescribed lithium. She was kept there for months, against her will. “I couldn’t go outside,” she shares. Other freedoms were also stripped away. She was unable to drive, had to give blood weekly, and couldn’t even bathe privately.
Britney reached out to her sister Jamie Lynn from the facility. She was desperate for help. But Jamie Lynn’s response was less than supportive. “Stop fighting it. There’s nothing you can do about it, so stop fighting it,” she allegedly told Britney.
Feeling betrayed, Britney wrote, “I didn’t understand how Jamie Lynn and our father had developed such a good relationship. She knew I was reaching out to her for help…I felt like she should have taken my side.” The sisters’ relationship took a public hit in early 2022 over Jamie Lynn’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said.
Britney felt that Jamie Lynn was spreading damaging stories about her. “She rushed out salacious stories about me, many of them hurtful and outrageous,” Britney states in her book. Despite the hurt, Britney is trying to find compassion over anger. “I’m working to feel more compassion than anger toward her and toward everyone who I feel has wronged me. It’s not that easy,” she admits.
E! News tried to get Jamie Lynn’s side of the story. In 2022, she said on E!’s Daily Pop that her relationship with Britney is complicated. “We go back and forth, but at the end of the day, the love and support will always be there,” she said.
