If you are a Game of Thrones fan then you’ll be amazed to hear that the game of thrones prequel House of the Dragon is coming out very soon. The TV series that broke many records and became one of the highest-grossing TV series of all time, is returning after a season finale that disappointed many fans.

With that said, many of the fans expected a sequel of Game of Thrones, something to continue the untold story of the last series, but for now, fans can only be satisfied by getting a prequel.

The latest prequel House of the Dragon went into production a couple of years ago, but due to the Covid-19 crisis, the premiere was delayed until this year.

Fans of Game of Thrones betting on the TV series House of Dragons to be the next success should check out whether or not it will be connected to the original show.

The Premise of House of the Dragon

Even though most fans expected the story of Game of Thrones to continue, the House of Dragons, being a prequel is moving things way back before the era of Game of Thrones. In fact, the upcoming TV show is set two centuries before the events from the original series.

This means that we won’t be betting on any of the activities related to Game of Thrones, and there won’t be any familiar faces in the cast.

The House of Dragon prequel will follow the fall of House Targaryen – also known as Daenerys’ family.

The story behind the new series is based on Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, which chronicles the first century and a half of the white-haired family. There is also a second book planned to cover the remaining history leading up to Robert Baratheon’s rebellion and will offer plenty of material for potential future seasons.

House of Dragons will be based around the fight for the Iron Throne between King Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra and Viserys’ brother Daemon. Basically, shares the same idea as Game of Thrones, set in a world where many rules want to climb to the throne.

The heated debate between the two about who should rule Westeros will spark a civil war and inevitably lead to the downfall of the Targaryen family.

Cast

Even though we would love to see some of the names from the original Game of Thrones series, with the action taking place 200 years before the events from the original show, that is not possible. However, the cast for the new upcoming series is stacked and full of potential.

Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke will lead the cast. Smith will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of King Viserys. He is a masterful warrior and a dragon rider that possesses the true blood of the dragon.

Cooke will play Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King. She is described a unique individual that freezes people with her beauty and sharp political mind.

The main role of the show falls in the hands of D’Arcy, which will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, which is the kin’s first-born child and also a dragon rider.

Will There Be Dragons?

Since the whole premise of the show is set around Targaryen, which is famously known for breeding dragons, there is a good chance that the latest show will be packed with some dragon action. Even though there are no confirmations about dragons being in the new series apart from a few pieces of evidence from the name and a couple of promotional posters, most people believe that the House of Dragons will offer plenty of dragon action.

Release Date

The prequel to Game of Thrones, the House of Dragons was set to premiere a lot earlier but due to delays in shooting the series due to the Covid-19 crisis, it is set to be released on August 21.

House of Dragons Behind the Scenes

One of the things that are important to mention is that David Benioff and D.B Weiss won’t be involved with the show. The two directors of the Game of Thrones that got a lot of backlash for the last season of Game of Thrones are not involved in the new series, which is probably for the best.

Martin also announced that he won’t be writing new episodes any time soon. The script for the new shot can cover the first season, but Martin said that he will continue his writing after the production of the show finishes.

How to Watch the House of the Dragon

The series will be available on steam, and in addition to airing on HBO, the House of the Dragon will also be coming to HBO Mas.

The first season will include 10 episodes made with similar style and length as the Game of Thrones episodes we all know and love.
